The Bowls Club meets in the Stewkley Village Hall and is open to all from the age of twelve. The membership is £10 per year
The Club holds roll-ups on Thursday evenings from 7.30 until 9.30 all year round and on Tuesday afternoon from 2 until 4pm during September to April.
All equipment is provided and all that is necessary is a pair of flat soled shoes or slippers. The cost for the session is just £2.00.
Newcomers are always welcome and can try the sport for three sessions for free before joining the club. Members are available to offer training and advice.
The Club also plays in two leagues during the Winter months -
The Aylesbury Vale Short Mat Bowls Friendly League and
The John Robinson Memorial Shield.
This entails one home or away match per week from September through toApril and is purely voluntary and no pressure is made to play in competitive matches.
One of the biggest benefits of short mat bowling is its flexibility. The equipment is portable and only needs an area large enough to take a mat 6 foot wide and 45 foot long. It is played in village halls, community centres, social clubs and leisure centres. The game is played by all ages, sexes and abilities, all competing together – a real family sport.
The teams currently competing in the Aylesbury Vale Short Mat Bowls Friendly League are……
Beacon, Chinnor, Haddenham Blue, Haddenham 'C', Hawkslade, Marsh Gibbon, Stewkley, Wendover Dark Green, Wendover Light Green, Westcott, Wing and Winslow
